Respected Prime Minister,
We, the members of the community and supporters of fairness and compassion, respectfully urge the Government of Canada to consider a humane and practical solution for Indian international students currently residing in Canada who are facing uncertainty regarding their immigration status.
Canada has long stood as a beacon of hope for immigrants — a country built on diversity, opportunity, and the rule of law. Indian students, including a significant number from Punjab, have come to Canada in good faith to pursue education, work honestly, and contribute to Canadian society. They are employed in healthcare support, transportation, retail, hospitality, technology, and many other essential sectors. They pay tuition, rent, taxes, and actively participate in local communities.
For many families in Punjab, sending a child to Canada required extraordinary sacrifice. Agriculture is the primary economic backbone of Punjab, and countless families financed their children’s education by selling ancestral farmland — often their only asset and long-term source of income. These decisions were made with faith in Canada’s fairness and stability.
If these students are now forced to return abruptly, many families will face devastating financial consequences, with no land or livelihood left to sustain them. The emotional and economic trauma could be severe, affecting entire communities. Stability, opportunity, and lawful pathways reduce vulnerability to desperation and social instability. Compassionate policy strengthens societies on both sides.
We respectfully submit that students who entered Canada legally, studied or worked in good faith, and maintained lawful conduct should not bear the consequences of shifting geopolitical dynamics or diplomatic tensions. Immigration decisions affecting individuals who have already invested their futures in Canada should remain humane, merit-based, and forward-looking.
We respectfully call upon the Government of Canada to:
This request is not only about immigration policy — it is about preserving Canada’s global reputation for fairness, compassion, and rule of law. Supporting students who have already built lives in Canada strengthens communities, stabilizes the workforce, and reinforces Canada’s moral leadership.
We urge your government to act with empathy and wisdom in addressing this issue.
Respectfully submitted,
Concerned Community Members & Supporters
