We, the citizens and well-wishers of Punjab, respectfully submit this petition to request stronger and more accessible voting rights for Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) in Punjab elections.

NRIs share deep cultural, emotional, and economic ties with Punjab. Through remittances, investments, social initiatives, and global representation, NRIs continue to contribute significantly to Punjab’s development. However, despite being registered Indian citizens, many NRIs face practical barriers that prevent them from participating in the democratic process.

Enabling NRI voting in a secure, transparent, and accessible manner will strengthen democracy, increase civic participation, and ensure that the voices of Punjabis living abroad are heard in decisions that shape the state’s future.

Why NRI Voting Matters:

  • Strengthens democratic inclusion
  • Recognizes the contribution of the Punjabi diaspora
  • Encourages responsible governance through wider participation
  • Aligns Punjab with global democratic best practices

Our Request:

We urge the concerned authorities to:

  1. Simplify voter registration for NRIs
  2. Enable practical voting mechanisms (such as postal or approved remote methods)
  3. Ensure transparency, security, and data protection
  4. Conduct awareness programs for NRI voters

Final Note:

A stronger democracy is built when every citizen’s voice counts, regardless of where they live. Enabling NRI voting is a step toward a more inclusive and representative Punjab.
